The department of Mathematical Sciences seeks applications for an Assistant Professor in Mathematical Sciences. The department seeks candidates with expertise to teach Statistics for undergraduate Mathematics and Data Science majors, as well as a graduate level Applied Statistics course.
Undergraduate statistics courses would also support general education requirements for a variety of majors, as well as students pursuing a statistics or sports analytics interdisciplinary minor.
Successful candidates will have a passion for teaching and supporting the success of students from diverse backgrounds, as well as potential for continuing scholarship in their discipline. Candidates would teach a wide variety of undergraduate statistics courses including Elementary Statistics, Introduction to R, Applied Statistical Methods, a two-semester sequence in Probability and Statistics, and Statistical Learning. Core mathematics courses such as calculus, differential equations and linear algebra could also be taught. As our Data Science program works closely with the Computer Science program housed in the R.B. Annis School of Engineering, there are also opportunities to co-teach courses like Big Data Mining.
In addition to teaching and scholarship, University-level service is required after the first year of service; departmental service is encouraged starting the first year.
